How many times have you wanted to try something, or wished you would have started something when you were younger? Sometimes in life we aren't fortunate enough to get a head start on things that we enjoy later in our life. However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't ever start.

Just because you're older, less fit, or not in the best shape to start that new sport, learn that new instrument, practice that new language, or write that book doesn't mean that you can't still start now.

These limiting beliefs that we create and accept about ourselves can be detrimental to us living our lives to the fullest. The only person keeping you from your hobbies, dreams, and passions is yourself.

So, take this episode as a message and a challenge to go after those things you've always wanted to accomplish in life and start fulfilling this one short precious life that you've been blessed with!

Do everything with good intentions and connect to your elements.

Evan:

Hey, what's going on everybody.

Evan:

Welcome back to the elemental Evan show.

Evan:

Thank you very much for tuning in on this mini Monday episode.

Evan:

As you all already know on Mondays, I produce these mini episodes to

Evan:

kind of just give you some quick advice on health and wellness.

Evan:

A lot of them are on mindset as well.

Evan:

I really enjoy sharing my little mindset, tips and tricks or ideas.

Evan:

Uh, it's just a good, good opportunity for me to kind of vent and share

Evan:

a little thing here or there.

Evan:

So anyways, today is going to be on the topic of it's never too late to start.

Evan:

I think this is an awesome topic because we really create so many excuses for

Evan:

ourselves that we kind of ended up talking ourselves out of doing certain things and,

Evan:

Especially when it comes to starting something that we feel that we

Evan:

are maybe, you know, too old for or something along those lines.

Evan:

So I really want to dive in on this topic and to start off, I wanted to start

Evan:

off with why this topic is important.

Evan:

So as I just said, we really have this bad habit of.

Evan:

Setting these limitations around ourselves based on typically

Evan:

what society looks like.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

So, you know, we'll create all these limitations from I'm too old, too

Evan:

young, too fat, too skinny, too dumb, ugly, tall, short, you know, et cetera.

Evan:

Just fill in the blank to do X, Y, or Z.

Evan:

When in reality.

Evan:

You can do anything you've ever wanted to do regardless of the

Evan:

limitations that you accept.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

It's not just that you're creating these limitations for yourself, but

Evan:

you're also accepting these limitations.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

But let me tell you this.

Evan:

Where there is a will.

Evan:

There is a way.

Evan:

Now, please don't misunderstand that in terms of being a 76 year old,

Evan:

who is having trouble walking and wants to be a professional soccer

Evan:

player, obviously there are certain limitations that we cannot break.

Evan:

However, that doesn't mean that the 76 year old, who always wanted to

Evan:

play soccer and never really was able to couldn't get out there and start

Evan:

kicking a ball and enjoying just the simple practice of playing soccer

Evan:

and enjoying the sport for what it is and who knows maybe even becoming

Evan:

the best 76 year old soccer player.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

So obviously there are kind of ways we can weave around However, what I am

Evan:

really trying to say is that many times we create excuses around chasing the

Evan:

things that we want in life, because it's easier to create those excuses than it

Evan:

is to actually go out and get it right.

Evan:

That's why people say things like, oh, I would have loved to travel more when

Evan:

I was young or hike up a 20,000 foot mountain or 6,000 meter mountain, uh, or

Evan:

play more sports or play an instrument or write a book and on and on and on.

Evan:

The question is then what is it?

Evan:

That's holding you back from doing it now.

Evan:

And obviously people will create a ton of excuses.

Evan:

Some of them could be extremely valid, but around this question, Such as

Evan:

I don't have enough money, I can't take off enough time from work, or I

Evan:

don't even know where to get started.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

A lot of times these goals might be so big.

Evan:

They kind of scare us and we don't even know where to start.

Evan:

But this still brings me back to the original point of where there's a will.

Evan:

There If you truly want to start doing something.

Evan:

That you've always wanted to do.

Evan:

But it just seems impossible . Just start small.

Evan:

That would be my best.

Evan:

First piece of advice, at least.

Evan:

So for example, If you want to travel more.

Evan:

Maybe do a couple short little weekend trips that don't require

Evan:

you to travel super, super far.

Evan:

Maybe it's even just drivable, right.

Evan:

Or maybe it is on a plane, but it's only an hour away or something like

Evan:

Start out small, do these little trips, right.

Evan:

And maybe you will start to find, you know, a good website for

Evan:

purchasing tickets for airplanes.

Evan:

And, you know, they're very cost-effective and maybe you're able

Evan:

to find a hotel line or a hostel line I don't know, couch surfing.

Evan:

A website that allows you to also stay wherever you're going for quite cheap.

Evan:

Right?

Evan:

So now you're starting to learn all these little tips and tricks that you can build

Evan:

upon and you don't have to get too, too far out of your comfort zone right away.

Evan:

You don't have to obviously jump on a plane to a completely opposite side

Evan:

of the world country where you don't speak the language and yada, yada,

Evan:

maybe that is your goal to get to, but you don't have to start there.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

Uh, it's even in terms of, you know, running a marathon, maybe

Evan:

that's your goal and you've never even ran more than a couple miles.

Evan:

How about you just start with walking some miles, right?

Evan:

Start start getting that down and start walking one or two or three miles, then

Evan:

maybe start running those miles, you know, and then maybe get into a half

Evan:

marathon, give that a try, see how that goes, you know, and just keep building up.

Evan:

You can always take steps to get to where you want to go.

Evan:

You don't have to jump in to the deep end, which is also something you can

Evan:

do, but it is not a hundred percent necessary obviously to do that.

Evan:

Now, why am I even talking about this concept?

Evan:

What does it really matter if people have these goals that, you know, if they

Evan:

accomplish them, means nothing to me.

Evan:

Well, let me just tell you the truth in all of this that is

Evan:

even though life can seem long.

Evan:

There will come a day when we are older in our years, and we're going

Evan:

to look back on life and think, man, Where did all of that time go.

Evan:

Because I already find myself right now, looking back on the years

Evan:

in awe of how fast they flew by.

Evan:

However on that day when I'm older and you know, our, all

Evan:

of us are older and our years.

Evan:

We're going to want to look back on our life and think, wow.

Evan:

I really did some amazing things in my life, push myself to limits that

Evan:

I never even thought were possible.

Evan:

I was, you know, kind to those who didn't even deserve my kindness.

Evan:

I made the world, or even just my community, a better

Evan:

place than when I found it.

Evan:

I was honest.

Evan:

I was brave.

Evan:

I did everything to the best of my ability, you know, put in my

Evan:

hundred percent, every single time.

Evan:

It's for this reason that most mornings I actually reflect on the thought.

Evan:

That any day specifically that, you know, today, Could be my last

Evan:

and if indeed today is my last day.

Evan:

How do I want people to remember me?

Evan:

How would, I want my last interactions with people to be, how would I want

Evan:

to show up for myself so that if I looked back on this day, like a recap,

Evan:

I'd feel happy about the way I ended things with everyone and everything.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

So I urge you to ask yourself the same.

Evan:

Question each morning and see how you start showing up in life.

Evan:

If you want to hear more on this topic, I do have a episode that I

Evan:

filmed specifically on why you should start your morning with death in mind.

Evan:

But truthfully, it is such a good question to ask and can really help you to just

Evan:

appreciate each day a lot, lot more.

Evan:

Now, before I end the show, I really wanted to leave all of you with a few

Evan:

examples of people who chase their dreams.

Evan:

And, you know, even if they felt they were too weak or old or.

Evan:

Had any of the limitations that I mentioned in the beginning, they still

Evan:

went after them fought for those dreams.

Evan:

And they achieved them regardless of these limitations.

Evan:

So, first one we're going to start off with is Julia child.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

For many of you, you probably know who that is.

Evan:

Julia child published her first cookbook at the age of 50 years old.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

Then she turned into a celebrity chef with her own TV show.

Evan:

She also became the first woman to be introduced into the culinary

Evan:

Institute of Americas hall of fame.

Evan:

Starting at 50.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

So already right there.

Evan:

You are never too old, right?

Evan:

Stan Lee, Stan Lee didn't catch his brake until he was nearly 40 years old.

Evan:

When he published the fantastic four from there, the rest of the

Evan:

heroes were obviously history and continuing on, as we see.

Evan:

Toni Morrison.

Evan:

Toni Morrison did not explode and explode in the public eye until 1993.

Evan:

When she became the first African-American woman to win

Evan:

the Nobel prize for literature.

Evan:

Guess how old?

Evan:

62 years old.

Evan:

Um, sorry, this name I'm going to totally butcher, but Fauzia seeing, I want to

Evan:

say S I N G H was born with a disorder that left him unable to take his first

Evan:

steps until he was five years old.

Evan:

When his wife and two children died, he looked for a way to fill the empty spot

Evan:

in his life and started running again.

Evan:

He was in his late eighties at this time.

Evan:

And he ran his first marathon at the age of 89 and became the first 100

Evan:

year old to run a marathon in 2011.

Evan:

He's been, uh, in Olympic torch bearer on two occasions once at the

Evan:

age of 101, and has broken several running records in his age category.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

I got a few more for you.

Evan:

Um, Nelson Mandela, I mean, You probably already know so much history on him,

Evan:

but just to give you an idea, he spent 27 years in prison and went on to be

Evan:

the president of South Africa being inaugurated on May 10th, 1994 at age 77.

Evan:

Obviously, there are so many more accomplishments there, but we're

Evan:

just going to leave it there.

Evan:

Uh, Harry Bernstein found success as a writer later in his life, working on his

Evan:

memoir at age 96 and publishing books at age ages, 80, sorry, 98, 99 and 100.

Evan:

Finally, I'm going to finish this off with someone who is

Evan:

just an incredible human being.

Evan:

And that is calling old Brady.

Evan:

He suffered injuries to 25% of his body, primarily his legs with doctors

Evan:

telling him that he may never walk again.

Evan:

Normally.

Evan:

He then went on to set world records.

Evan:

With one of them being trekking across Antarctica with a sled that weighs over

Evan:

300 pounds in a little over 50 days.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

All these limitations were given to him.

Evan:

Might not walk normally again.

Evan:

You know, just a random person.

Evan:

I believe he's from Oregon, right?

Evan:

Like nothing special.

Evan:

But yeah, he went out, stopped giving himself excuses and chased those dreams.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

And that is what I am hoping for all of you to do as well.

Evan:

If you have a dream, doesn't have to be as crazy as these ones here, but nonetheless,

Evan:

don't feel limited by where you are in life, because I truly believe that you

Evan:

are where you're meant to be right now.

Evan:

Okay.

Evan:

So.

Evan:

How the events have occurred to bring you here?

Evan:

I don't know.

Evan:

But nonetheless you're here and yeah, it would have been great if you had 10

Evan:

years ago, or when you were in better shape or looking better or whatever

Evan:

it may be, but you didn't, you're here right now and you can make the most of

Evan:

this moment and you can still start.

Evan:

It's never too late.

Evan:

RD all.

Evan:

I hope you guys really enjoyed this episode and I hope this fired you up a

Evan:

little bit, motivated you to go out and chase those dreams of yours, or even

Evan:

just the hobbies that you want to start, whatever it may be, whatever scares you

Evan:

a little bit, go out there and chase that because that is where growth is found.

Evan:

That's going to do it for today's episode.

Evan:
