Hey, what's going on everybody.
Evan:Welcome back to the Elemental Evan show.
Evan:Today is a Monday mini episode ICO record all of these mini episodes on
Evan:Mondays, as opposed to on Wednesdays when I do the full length episodes.
Evan:And today, if you are watching this on.
Evan:Then you're gonna notice that this is a little bit of a different
Evan:setting than I normally have.
Evan:And that's just because I am here at entity fitness here in Monrovia friend,
Evan:Jacob, who was actually on one of the previous podcast episodes has this
Evan:beautiful little setup and invited me to.
Evan:Come on down and record.
Evan:So welcome to this beautiful space and hope y'all enjoy it.
Evan:If you aren't already watching this on YouTube, then please go ahead and check
Evan:that out in the show notes I have well, I'm trying to get all of these episodes
Evan:recorded and up on YouTube as well.
Evan:So you can watch 'em there.
Evan:As opposed to just listening to them, unless that's kind of your jam.
Evan:If you're listening to this on your way to work, then that works as well.
Evan:Today's episode though, is going to be on a topic that I heard just
Evan:recently discussed by a few people.
Evan:And it's all about morning routines.
Evan:So obviously morning routines are a pretty big thing.
Evan:And I, myself personally have a morning routine, but.
Evan:There's also a lot of people who don't really like morning routines and they
Evan:would prefer to just get to work.
Evan:So what I'm gonna discuss today is essentially if you should be doing a
Evan:morning routine or not, and what are the benefits or kind of the downsides
Evan:to 'em whatever it can go both ways.
Evan:So that's what we're gonna discuss today.
Evan:And just to kind of start off, I do have a morning routine where every
Evan:morning when I wake up, I, you.
Evan:Get outta bed.
Evan:I make sure that I'm out of bed within five to 10 minutes of my alarm,
Evan:because if I don't get out before or in that, you know, time range, then.
Evan:It turns out I'm probably gonna end up sleeping in a lot
Evan:later than I would like to.
Evan:So I really try to stay very strict to that and get up within
Evan:five to 10 minutes of the alarm.
Evan:Usually I'm up within the first minute of my alarm going off.
Evan:And then from there I go ahead and typically I will freshen up a little
Evan:bit with some water on the face.
Evan:Maybe brush my teeth, right.
Evan:And I go straight into a meditation.
Evan:And the reason I do my meditating at this time is just because my mind is
Evan:still so fresh and calm from waking up that a lot of the times, I don't have
Evan:all of the kind of stresses and worries that kind of accumulate throughout
Evan:the day, that can kind of weigh on the mind and essentially just make it much
Evan:harder to get into a meditative state.
Evan:Or you're able to drop in and kind of allow those thoughts to just subside
Evan:and, and no longer really be, you know, in the forefront of your mind.
Evan:So that's why I really enjoy doing a morning meditation in which I
Evan:just kind of bring my awareness to the present and I try to, focus
Evan:on my breathing maybe even do some manifestation at this moment in time.
Evan:And then after that, I usually get a little bit of a workout in, it might
Evan:even just be as simple as going out for a morning walk, which I usually do
Evan:most days, because I like to get that sunlight on my skin and in my eyes.
Evan:It's really good for setting your circadian rhythm and just
Evan:kind of starting your day off.
Evan:Right.
Evan:And then from there, I usually go on to my coffee, really trying to
Evan:avoid coffee within the first hour of waking up because your body is already
Evan:naturally producing cortisol and having coffee too early in the morning can
Evan:actually spike that cortisol and really tax your adrenal glands over time.
Evan:So that's essentially my morning routine.
Evan:And then after that getting to work and just getting going and I found.
Evan:That usually works for me really well.
Evan:If I take more time than that, I feel that I start to waste my
Evan:day and I'm not as productive.
Evan:It's kind of weird how the mind can work that way, but also if I don't take
Evan:at least a little time in the morning to just wake up I also find that I'm a
Evan:little bit more scattered in my thoughts and you know, it's harder for me.
Evan:Really know what I need to do.
Evan:Almost like having just a perfect list of, items to do.
Evan:It's I'm kind of jumping around and I'm not as put together.
Evan:So essentially I'm just not as efficient and effective.
Evan:And also it's really nice to just wake up and have a moment to, breathe
Evan:and, and just take in a new day.
Evan:So anyways, Realistically in terms of having a morning routine, it's going to
Evan:really just depend on how you function.
Evan:So there's some people who, you know, they can wake up in the morning and
Evan:they they're ready to rock and roll.
Evan:They can just get going.
Evan:You know, they don't need to take some time to really get together, get their
Evan:thoughts together start waking up you know, there's some people that are
Evan:just able to really get up and just start their day and be productive.
Evan:And.
Evan:Personally, if that works for you, then absolutely go for it
Evan:because there's no point in wasting productivity and productive time.
Evan:If you can be absolutely productive upon waking up, then I say, absolutely
Evan:take that time and really seize it.
Evan:If you work a nine to five, then, maybe.
Evan:You have some other like side hustles or something you're doing in the morning
Evan:and that's a good time for you to do it.
Evan:Obviously you can just kind of cater this to how you want it.
Evan:However, I have definitely found that for most people, about 30 minutes
Evan:in the morning is definitely going to be somewhat necessary to wake up.
Evan:I, for a while there, when I was working a nine to five.
Evan:I would just roll out of bed.
Evan:with probably 20 minutes to get ready and throw some clothes on shower, brush
Evan:my teeth, and then just be out the door.
Evan:And I really noticed that on those days I felt like I was just rushing everything
Evan:I wasn't actually being present in.
Evan:My time in the morning, I wasn't fully awake when I was going, I
Evan:would forget stuff all the time.
Evan:If I had to take certain things to work or whatever it may be.
Evan:And so I was just really not able to take the time to get everything
Evan:together and you know, really be.
Evan:Effective and productive in my day.
Evan:So typically a 30 minute to an hour, if you really need that amount
Evan:of time to wake up and get ready then take up to an hour as well.
Evan:I don't usually like to go much over an hour in my morning routine.
Evan:I feel that that is at the point where I start to waste time.
Evan:I would say.
Evan:So I really do try to limit my morning routines to about an hour.
Evan:And I feel that I usually can get most of my stuff in, in that time,
Evan:as well as just fully wake up.
Evan:And that is the other thing.
Evan:If you are like how I was, where, you wake up to your alarm clock and
Evan:immediately you're rushing to get ready.
Evan:You should definitely change that.
Evan:Don't, don't make that a habit.
Evan:Definitely try to add a little bit of time to your morning to allow your body to,
Evan:to simply wake up and get ready for the.
Evan:Because for one, you're waking up in a stressed state, which is not good.
Evan:You shouldn't start your days in a really stressed state.
Evan:You should wake up and be able to, Collect your thoughts, get
Evan:your things together for the day.
Evan:Maybe just enjoy the peace and quiet of the morning, which is one of the reasons
Evan:why I think a lot of people do a morning routine is just because it is so quiet and
Evan:the world is still just kind of waking up.
Evan:So you don't have all the distractions of the day.
Evan:That makes it a really nice time, not only for the morning routine,
Evan:but also for a morning meditation.
Evan:So definitely it's a really sacred time and it's a very beautiful time to.
Evan:You know, get your day going.
Evan:But I would say at a minimum that if you do not have a morning routine
Evan:creating at least 15 to 20 minutes of getting up earlier than you normally
Evan:would, so that you have time to for one.
Evan:sit down and take a few breaths.
Evan:Like right.
Evan:When you wake up, you can do it in bed or you can get up and, and move a little bit.
Evan:So you're not as tired, but get up and take five to 10 deep breaths
Evan:and just really feel present.
Evan:Don't think about stuff of yesterday or things that you need to do to later today.
Evan:Just go ahead and take a moment to really breathe, become
Evan:present, and feel your body.
Evan:And this is a great time to also have a little bit of gratitude for
Evan:just having another day to go out and seize the day and, and seize, whatever
Evan:it is that you need to do today.
Evan:Each day truly is a gift.
Evan:And so I like to take at least a little time to, you know,
Evan:show my appreciation for it.
Evan:Those are definitely a few things I would recommend, but like I said, if you don't
Evan:have you know, if you feel that you don't need that time, then go ahead and skip
Evan:it and just get straight into your day.
Evan:But definitely set aside at least 15 to 20 minutes to wake up at least.
Evan:Right.
Evan:And once again, in this 15 to 20 minutes, It's not just to get up and kind of wander
Evan:around your house or something, you know, you can be very intentional with it.
Evan:So, you know, like I said, with the breathing with a little bit of gratitude
Evan:practice and, um, really making sure that this is a time where you are not
Evan:on your phone, not on a laptop, not on a TV, no screens, no technology at all.
Evan:Just wake up, allow your body to naturally wake up.
Evan:Go outside.
Evan:Get a little bit of sunshine if you're PO uh, if you're able to do that maybe
Evan:even get grounded to the ground, get your feet connected to the earth and just
Evan:take this as a time to really wake up in the morning, you know, hydrate, go drink
Evan:some water, very simple tasks that you can do each morning, but they're gonna
Evan:really help you wake up and ease into your day as opposed to waking up and just
Evan:rushing through your day in the morning.
Evan:And then it's kind of setting a tone for the rest of your day.
Evan:You know, if you wake up so stressed, I feel like the
Evan:rest of your day is going to.
Evan:You know, just kind of at, at a little bit of a higher stress level, which we
Evan:definitely don't need in today's society.
Evan:So, uh, go ahead and give that a try if you aren't already.
Evan:But like I said, I don't think you need to make your morning routine, this huge,
Evan:massive two hour long thing each morning.
Evan:Uh, you can simply just take 15 to 20 minutes and, uh, you know, that's
Evan:really not that much more time in the morning, but it's definitely
Evan:going to provide a lot of value to.
Evan:Come into your day in a relaxed state and be calm and at ease and
Evan:more collected and more efficient, honestly, throughout your day.
Evan:Cuz that's what meditation for is for me.
Evan:It not only helps put my mind right.
Evan:But it also makes me a lot more effective and efficient in my day.
Evan:So anyways, go ahead and give that a try if you aren't already doing some form of
Evan:a morning routine, but I just thought this was a pretty interesting topic and there
Evan:was kind of some back and forth on it.
Evan:Uh, with some people who were.
Evan:No need to have a morning routine.
Evan:And then also the other side being like you have to have your morning routine,
Evan:I think is very dependent on yourself, but definitely taking a little time in
Evan:the morning to just wake up and respect the day and get your day started.
Evan:Right.
Evan:Is super, super important.
Evan:So anyways, go ahead and give that a try.
