In this week's episode Evan covers the best way to get over any sickness. While Evan was traveling through Portugal, he was running on very little sleep due to early morning flights and late night adventures. While being sick, Evan focused on eating clean and taking all of his supplements but they weren't nearly as effective as simply laying down and going to bed. Sleep is the absolute best way to get over any sickness as sleep gives the body time to repair and fight off whatever sickness you're battling. This episode will provide you with information on why sleep is so beneficial for when you're sick and provide you with the tools to get back on your feet and feeling good as new.
Do everything with good intentions and connect to your elements.

going on, everybody.
Speaker:Welcome back to the elemental Edmund show.
Speaker:Thank you all for tuning into this episode.
Speaker:I have a another great episode in terms of travel and health and how to
Speaker:stay healthy while you're traveling.
Speaker:So today is.
Speaker:On an episode where I'm going to speak a bit about, uh, why.
Speaker:Sleep is so important for when you're feeling sick and.
Speaker:And just how beneficial it is.
Speaker:And this is coming from experience because unfortunately I did get sick on this trip.
Speaker:BU who I know bummer.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:Um, but that's okay.
Speaker:It was a great opportunity for me too.
Speaker:You know, try some of these tips.
Speaker:That I.
Speaker:Give to people.
Speaker:And really apply it to myself.
Speaker:I personally don't get sick that often.
Speaker:So it was a real bummer, but man, does it give you an appreciation
Speaker:for when you feel good again?
Speaker:Uh, so that's really awesome, but.
Speaker:In terms of how I got sick.
Speaker:Uh, basically I had your classic, um, you know, achiness of the
Speaker:body going to the restroom a lot.
Speaker:I actually threw up as well, um, terrible sleep.
Speaker:So it was just all around feeling really, really crappy.
Speaker:Uh, I was getting very little sleep leading up to the sickness,
Speaker:which I definitely believe is.
Speaker:The reason why I actually got as sick as I did.
Speaker:Uh, literally I was going to bed so late at night and waking up so
Speaker:early because I was trying to pack my days four of, you know, sightseeing
Speaker:and, you know, catching trains.
Speaker:Early in the morning, things like that.
Speaker:So nonetheless.
Speaker:I got sick.
Speaker:It sucked, but no, what I did end up finding was that regardless of.
Speaker:All the supplements that I had, which are incredible and amazing.
Speaker:And they do some really, really great things for the body.
Speaker:The best thing I could possibly do was just get adequate sleep.
Speaker:So that's what I really focused on.
Speaker:And that's what I'm going to share with you is why sleep is so good
Speaker:at curing your body of a sickness.
Speaker:So, in fact, when you feel sick,
Speaker:The doctor will tell you to stay home and sleep.
Speaker:And it's for a really great reason, your circadian rhythm and your
Speaker:immune system have a connection just like most things in your body do.
Speaker:Therefore, if you're feeling under the weather catching up on sleep, such as
Speaker:getting nine to 10 hours instead of gesture, you know, six to eight hours or.
Speaker:Usually somewhere falls in that range.
Speaker:Uh, can be extremely beneficial.
Speaker:And that is exactly what I did.
Speaker:I was catching at least nine hours of sleep, about three
Speaker:nights in a row to really.
Speaker:Really catch up on.
Speaker:On my sleep and man, it felt incredible even.
Speaker:Just one night of.
Speaker:Getting nine hours of sleep.
Speaker:Made me feel a world better woke up.
Speaker:A lot of the aches had gone away and was able to just kind of feel
Speaker:like myself again, which is amazing.
Speaker:So you see when you sleep, your body is not actually taking a break.
Speaker:It's actually repairing itself and specifically repairing its immune
Speaker:system, cleaning up the mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of your cells.
Speaker:Although they do a lot more than just that.
Speaker:And the liver is detoxifying itself.
Speaker:So we're also able to create more antibodies from our
Speaker:lympho sites during sleep.
Speaker:So when you are sleeping, your body is fast at work, in repairing so
Speaker:much of, you know, the stress and breakdown of the day, and really
Speaker:helping you to perform at your best.
Speaker:The following day.
Speaker:During sleep.
Speaker:We also are able to push T cells into our lymph nodes, helping to destroy
Speaker:germ infected cells in our bodies.
Speaker:Therefore, if you're sick.
Speaker:Trying to sleep more in any form.
Speaker:Is going to be beneficial towards fighting harmful viruses and bacteria.
Speaker:And when I say in any form that just basically means, uh, naps as well
Speaker:as going to bed it, you know, at the appropriate time in the evening.
Speaker:So any form of sleep is going to be really, really beneficial
Speaker:when you're not feeling well.
Speaker:Now, along with sleep, you're also going to want to make sure to
Speaker:do a few other things, like stay hydrated, consume electrolytes.
Speaker:This is a huge one, a huge, huge one.
Speaker:Especially if you are flushing your body, AKA going to the restroom
Speaker:and throwing up, like I was.
Speaker:You are going to be very dehydrated.
Speaker:So you're going to want to drink a lot of water and get some
Speaker:electrolytes into your body.
Speaker:The other thing is going to be to keep your stress levels down.
Speaker:You do not want to be stressed when you are sick.
Speaker:This isn't going to have a very bad effect on the body.
Speaker:Whereas if you can just relax and take it easy, your body will be
Speaker:able to cure itself much faster.
Speaker:So really what was the most eyeopening thing here is sticking to the basics?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:Obviously I was still taking some supplements while I was sick.
Speaker:I was doubling down on them actually, but the one thing that felt the best
Speaker:and did the most improvement to my body and my sickness was just going to sleep.
Speaker:It's the basics, everyone I'm telling you every single time.
Speaker:You know, regardless of all the supplements, all the
Speaker:different things, the best.
Speaker:Things for your body are usually.
Speaker:The simplest things and they're typically free for the most part.
Speaker:So getting to bed, getting those, you know, eight hours in and
Speaker:really focusing on quality of sleep, eating healthy foods, right?
Speaker:Avoiding all this stuff.
Speaker:We know we shouldn't be eating and, you know, going out for walks, doing,
Speaker:doing just the simple thing, staying hydrated, those are going to be the
Speaker:things that are going to play the largest role in really keeping you healthy.
Speaker:So, if you are starting to feel like you're catching something, My biggest
Speaker:piece of advice is stick to the basics and get some excellent sleep.
Speaker:RD off that is going to do it for today.
