Speaker:

going on, everybody.

Speaker:

Welcome back to the elemental Evan show.

Speaker:

Thank you all so much for tuning into this episode.

Speaker:

Once again, I appreciate all of your listenership time and time again.

Speaker:

And this episode is actually going to be the very first episode

Speaker:

that I record while traveling.

Speaker:

So I am actually out here in Portugal.

Speaker:

And I am here for the holidays.

Speaker:

So obviously I got to keep this podcast going and I decided that it would be

Speaker:

a good idea to include some travel tips in terms of health and travel.

Speaker:

So obviously I enjoy traveling.

Speaker:

If you follow me on Instagram, you would definitely already know this.

Speaker:

Um, if you aren't already following me on Instagram, go ahead and

Speaker:

do so it's at elemental, Evan.

Speaker:

And you can go ahead and see.

Speaker:

All about the travels and the health trips along with the travels.

Speaker:

So the health tip that I will be talking about today in terms of

Speaker:

traveling is going to be walking.

Speaker:

And I know that sounds extremely basic, but trust me, it is way

Speaker:

more important than it sounds.

Speaker:

Now, before we jump into that topic, I wanted to take a moment and

Speaker:

talk a little bit about Organifi.

Speaker:

And their green juice, which I am really missing right now.

Speaker:

Uh, I took a few supplements with me, but I did not have the travel

Speaker:

packs and I'm super bummed because I really enjoy the green juice.

Speaker:

And it's such a great way to just get a lot of healthy vitamins and

Speaker:

minerals from a whole food source and in a delicious form as well.

Speaker:

My, I add because I have tried a lot of green juices that are really hard to

Speaker:

drink down, but these are super tasty and I really wish I had some right

Speaker:

now because they're a great way to get all your minerals in and on that note,

Speaker:

I will be doing a podcast as well for what.

Speaker:

Uh, supplements.

Speaker:

I did bring with me while traveling and why specifically I brought those with me.

Speaker:

But if you are at a place where you can order Organify and have either

Speaker:

their travel packs or their normal, uh, size container, then go ahead

Speaker:

and head over to the link in the show notes for Organifi, you will get

Speaker:

20% off just for being a listener.

Speaker:

And it is a great way.

Speaker:

Like I said, to get in some really excellent levels of vitamins and

Speaker:

minerals, you know, they have things like spirulina and chlorella and ashwagandha.

Speaker:

Maringa macho, all of these incredible ingredients in there that are

Speaker:

third-party tested for glyphosate.

Speaker:

And they are of course organic.

Speaker:

So definitely go ahead and check them out.

Speaker:

You will not regret it.

Speaker:

I am regretting not having them.

Speaker:

So definitely go give them a check.

Speaker:

Now in terms of walking.

Speaker:

I did say that this is a oh.

Speaker:

You know, the topic sounds.

Speaker:

Kind of more simple than really what it is now.

Speaker:

I mean, obviously walking is a simple task, but a lot of the times it gets

Speaker:

downplayed because, you know, people think that working out or exercise

Speaker:

or movement means going to a gym and lifting a bunch of heavy stuff,

Speaker:

which absolutely does constitute a form of exercise and movement.

Speaker:

And it's a great form of it.

Speaker:

However, walking is still an incredible, incredible form of

Speaker:

exercise and movement for your body.

Speaker:

As a matter of fact, Your body was designed to move, right?

Speaker:

That is our primary means of transporting ourselves in this world.

Speaker:

Before we had cars before we trained horses.

Speaker:

We had to walk.

Speaker:

That was just how you got from point a to point B and our ancestors

Speaker:

walked a lot, like way more than we even with think or imagine.

Speaker:

Uh, is not necessarily possible, but you know, more, more so I guess, practical.

Speaker:

And the reason for that was, is just because if you wanted to go

Speaker:

harvest food or, you know, hunt or.

Speaker:

Um, you know, meet up with someone, whatever it may have

Speaker:

been, you had to walk to do.

Speaker:

So if you, you know, wanted to grow, gather water, find a new location,

Speaker:

whatever it might have been.

Speaker:

Now today we are walking much, much less than we have ever been

Speaker:

in the entirety of humanity.

Speaker:

And a lot of this comes from being able to work at home, which is incredible.

Speaker:

Do not get me wrong.

Speaker:

I love the fact that I as well can work at home.

Speaker:

Uh, it makes things much more simple, adds more time to your day.

Speaker:

You don't have a second job driving to and from work.

Speaker:

You can just simply be at home.

Speaker:

However, this can really lead to us being extremely, extremely sedentary,

Speaker:

which is why I make sure that I always get in a morning, afternoon

Speaker:

and evening walk, or just at least one longer walk during the day.

Speaker:

This does a lot of things for the body.

Speaker:

And in terms of traveling.

Speaker:

I have found it, that it is one of the best ways of actually seeing a city or a

Speaker:

town or a country or whatever it may be.

Speaker:

Because when you walk, you are able to see all of the little nooks and crannies of

Speaker:

a place that you would never see if you were on the Metro or a bus or a car taxi.

Speaker:

Uh, whatever it may be.

Speaker:

Those forms of transportation while they are extremely efficient.

Speaker:

And if you are on a crunch time schedule, then absolutely use

Speaker:

some form of transportation.

Speaker:

But if you have the time.

Speaker:

Go and walk around a city.

Speaker:

If it is even a city that is maybe in your country, but you've just never been

Speaker:

to it before, or it's a completely new country, whatever it may be go walking.

Speaker:

It is truly the best way to really see a city.

Speaker:

For me.

Speaker:

I love to have a destination to get to.

Speaker:

You know, maybe it's a big landmark.

Speaker:

Very common touristic place, something like that.

Speaker:

But what I'll do is I will go ahead and map it out on Google

Speaker:

maps or something of that sort.

Speaker:

And go ahead and just start walking.

Speaker:

Even if it is a 30 or 45 minute or even an hour long walk, I found that

Speaker:

it is the best way to see the city.

Speaker:

You will find little restaurants that all the locals eat at that have

Speaker:

some of the best foods possible.

Speaker:

You will see all of the little local bars, all of the little local

Speaker:

parks that people hang out at.

Speaker:

And it is just a really, really nice way to enjoy a city while also

Speaker:

getting in some really great exercise.

Speaker:

Now that leads me to the point of.

Speaker:

When I first traveled to Barcelona, I was studying Spanish there for a month.

Speaker:

And while we were out there, I was on a budget.

Speaker:

And so I was eating some of the more unhealthy foods you might say.

Speaker:

So tons of bread, a lot of processed meats in terms of, uh, you know,

Speaker:

sandwich meats and some cheeses.

Speaker:

And on top of that, of course I'm eating, you know, some other, not so

Speaker:

healthy things like a little bit of ice cream here and there, and, you

Speaker:

know, just kind of enjoying the food that was offered to me out there.

Speaker:

So I was in no way, shape or form trying to eat for health yet.

Speaker:

I was walking everywhere.

Speaker:

I would walk sometimes even 10 to 15 miles in a day.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

I understand that is quite exaggerated and extreme.

Speaker:

But that is what I was doing.

Speaker:

Once again, I was cheap.

Speaker:

And so I did not have, you know, quote unquote the money to use the Metro,

Speaker:

even though I did have the money for it.

Speaker:

I chose to save that and put it towards other experiences.

Speaker:

And instead I chose to walk and I do not regret it at all.

Speaker:

It was one of the best experiences.

Speaker:

And I saw so much of Barcelona in that month.

Speaker:

I was able to walk around everywhere and felt that I really had a

Speaker:

great understanding of the city.

Speaker:

I knew a lot of the local spots and it was just a really.

Speaker:

A really amazing way for me to connect with the city and get in some good

Speaker:

exercise, which leads me to the fact that while eating terribly, like I

Speaker:

was, I actually still lost 15 pounds.

Speaker:

While I was out there and all I did was walk.

Speaker:

I did not go to any gyms.

Speaker:

I did no other form of exercise except for walking.

Speaker:

So yes, walking is an incredibly, incredibly great form of exercise.

Speaker:

And I will say this, a lot of people allow great to be the enemy of good meaning.

Speaker:

Maybe they think that going to a gym is the best form of working out.

Speaker:

And yeah, of course you can do more, uh, various types of

Speaker:

exercises while you are there.

Speaker:

So in that way, it is a little better.

Speaker:

However walking is still a good form of exercise.

Speaker:

I would even argue that it is a great form of exercise.

Speaker:

So while you are traveling after you eat a meal or something like that, go for

Speaker:

a nice walk, or if you want to go see a landmark that maybe is only a mile or two

Speaker:

away, maybe you go ahead and walk there and just see what you find along the way.

Speaker:

To me, this is the best way to experience a city.

Speaker:

Or a country, even for that matter, obviously you're not going to walk the

Speaker:

entire country, but it is a really great way to get a good feel for the area that

Speaker:

you are in with not only the architecture and the food and nightlife or city life,

Speaker:

but also just the people there in general.

Speaker:

Now of course, I got to provide you with a few statistics on

Speaker:

why walking is good for you.

Speaker:

I'll keep this one short.

Speaker:

Uh, in terms of trying to keep this episode short as well, but Harvard did

Speaker:

a study where they found that people who walked 20 minutes a day, Five

Speaker:

days a week when compared to those who exercised a once a week or less.

Speaker:

Had 43%, fewer sick days.

Speaker:

So just a short 20 minute walk, five days a week can lower your chances of, you

Speaker:

know, needing to take a sick day by 43%.

Speaker:

This is incredible.

Speaker:

Incredible, incredible.

Speaker:

Statistic, because it really just shows the power of.

Speaker:

Walking, you know, I mean, really this is a short amount of time, 20 minutes a day.

Speaker:

I actually try to get a minimum of 30 minutes a day, but we

Speaker:

can see here that even just 20 minutes, a day, five days a week.

Speaker:

Can make a massive difference in your life.

Speaker:

Now, the CDC has also found that walking can help control.

Speaker:

Sorry, can also help lower your risk for heart disease, stroke type two diabetes,

Speaker:

depression, and even some cancers.

Speaker:

This.

Speaker:

Form of movement.

Speaker:

Walking is truly medicine.

Speaker:

Your body is designed to do it and to starve your body of walking.

Speaker:

Is truly a just terrible idea.

Speaker:

And we are starving.

Speaker:

Our bodies have something that they are designed to do

Speaker:

and even actually need to do.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

We need to move.

Speaker:

We need to walk.

Speaker:

We need to use these muscles in order to preserve them for the

Speaker:

long run, because you know, I'm all about longevity and trying to live

Speaker:

a long, healthy life where you have.

Speaker:

You know, more years to your life and more life to your years.

Speaker:

So get out there, get walking if you're traveling around or even

Speaker:

if you're in your own city, get outside, go walking and stay healthy.

Speaker:

Everyone.

Speaker:

Also one point to just end this off on, in terms of longevity, we also find

Speaker:

that a lot of blue zones include very.

Speaker:

Hill inclusive, uh, landscape, I guess you'd say so.

Speaker:

There's a lot of Hills in these landscapes.

Speaker:

And the people there do a ton of walking as well.

Speaker:

So, this is a great way to really.

Speaker:

Increase your longevity and just live a great life and

Speaker:

get to experience a new city.

Speaker:

Like the locals would Alrighty, everyone.

Speaker:

I hope you have a great rest of your day.

Speaker:

I hope your holidays were amazing.

Speaker:

We are probably already in January by the time, by the time

Speaker:

that I released this episode.

Speaker:

So I hope your holidays were amazing and you are enjoying the new year, everyone.

Speaker:

Thank you all so much for tuning in on this episode.

Speaker:

If you are not already subscribed on whatever platform you're listening

Speaker:

to this on, whether that's apple or Spotify, or even on YouTube, which

Speaker:

I will probably not be posting these videos I'm filming while traveling.

Speaker:

Uh, onto YouTube, but I have a lot of videos on YouTube as well as a

Speaker:

lot of the other episodes on YouTube.

Speaker:

So feel free to check that out and subscribe as well.

Speaker:

Uh, I am most active on Instagram.

Speaker:

So go find me on there.

Speaker:

Reach out to me, connect.

Speaker:

Tell me what you like or don't like about the show or what you want to hear more of.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

You all, I love y'all very much and I appreciate the.

Speaker:

Listenership continuing on here.

Speaker:

And I hope you guys enjoy these little travel tips.

Speaker:

I have quite a few more good ones coming up, so really excited to dive into those

Speaker:

and, uh, just share all of the health knowledge while traveling with all of you.

Speaker:

Already everyone much love, have a great one and peace.
